In recent years, though, mare and more car makers have changed to rotors that are lighter in weight and slimmer to reduce weight and save cash. Discs used to survive through two or three resurfacings, but don't be shocked if whenever it's time to change out the pads you're instructed you also need brand new rotors. The current ones may well not have enough material in order to be shaved off in resurfacing and may not be exactly as long lasting as those from, say, 10 or more years in the past. In addition, service businesses are not willing to resurface rotors since it increases valuable time to a project along with the quality of the work can easily vary by what person does it and how good they are. Instead, it is speedier, less complicated and more effective for repair service shops to just put in completely new rotors together with completely new pads.
